My home in a tree

My home in a tree

One day
I went into the forest
And found a tree that looked friendly
Decided to build a house in its branches
For my love and I
Once we settled in the neighborhood
Birds came for a visit
And a squirrel brought us nuts
Every Sunday night
So, we could bake a cake
In our oven warmed by the sun
At night stars sailed by
Tiny candles in the vast dark heaven
The moon stopped for a chat
And left green cheese for our breakfast
The next morning
Our tree house has windows
That catch the sunrise
And windows for when it sets
Doors to go in and doors to go out
Stairs that go down to a field of daffodils
Ours is a grand tree house
We might stay for winter
The bear that lives around the corner
Told me about snowshoe races
He and a friend have every year
Honey doughnuts are the first prize
No one loses he says
I like that kind of race, don’t you?
If one day you come to the forest
Please stop by our house
Lee will make coffee
I’ll dust off my best stories
When you come to our house
High in the forest trees
