My Hobo Heart
The train calls out to me,
with each clink of its wheels.
For adventure awaits
in an open boxcar,
baiting my hobo heart.
Its allure is so strong
chug-chug-chugging away.
And improvising words,
it goes clanking along
singing a country tune.
As I watch it in awe,
wondering where it's been.
I want to jump aboard
this magical machine,
and live my boyhood dream.
Clickety-clack it rolls
down rusty iron tracks.
And slowly disappears
around a hairpin bend,
till all I hear are squeals.
