Notes About The Poem
Image: by Daniel Ridgway Knight (1839 - 1924), "Maria on the Terrace"
My heart and soul are yearning
My heart and soul are yearning
for the rays of the sun to dance
upon the wildflowers in the meadow;
for the feel of warm, fresh tilled dirt
on bare feet as I place new seed
carefully in the cocoon of the earth.
My heart and soul are yearning
for the soft trilling of birds at daybreak,
and the mists of morning
watering the new day, then rising
to reveal the hills, the forest, the mountains
that cradle this valley I call home.
leap year day
one day longer
the wait for spring
