My Grand Mamas Eyes

As she sits watching, I wonder what
she sees as the cars pass and the sunsets
I wonder what her dreams were
as a young woman now aged and grey
I wonder what she did as a little girl
pigtails and teen years.

she sits and guards
us children play and fight as teens
I wonder if she missed those days or
did we irritate her, No, her eyes disagreed
I remember grandma sitting on the steps
keeping vigil as the days go by

I wonder what opportunities passed her by
as she reminisce days of long ago
I wonder what was behind grandma eyes
that day I felt her spirit wane sitting on the steps
I wondered how long before
she’d be carried away and laid to rest

Three summers later
while sitting on the steps
watching the cars go by
she rests in peace.
