My Generation

Saturday nights I remember
  were bad in September
    even worse in November

On campus, roving mobs and gangs
looking for girls to get drunk and then bang

In dorms, wise fools dropping LSD
screaming, trying to deal with reality

Frat boys throwing furniture through window glass
Mooning, blowing farts, and lighting the gas...

College days: The 'best years of my life' these hardly were
~ On my generation and me, an ineradicable slur

        Just in case you're wondering:
        I attended Dartmouth College
in 'Hangover, NH' from 1968 -
        1972... 6 years later, 'Animal
        House' was filmed there, not
        surprisingly.

Hello Gershon ... at the end of the year, schoolies week occurs and in the mayhem there is often a fatality from the madness - thank you Gershon - Lindsay

I can relate. I attended Plymouth State some 50 miles away in NH from 83-87. It was much as you describe. Keg riots were the claim to fame. Somehow we both learned something and survived.

No wonder government want Americans to pay for their "education"!

Oohoohoo! Think I'll stick with The School Of Hard Knocks. It seems it may have been easier. I barely got through high school and learned everything else I know from books I read. Sounds scary. Good job here. God Bless my friend. JB

You know, it was scary. Good thing I was too happy to be away from home to be scared for three of my four years. Senior year, all the debauchery finally penetrated my thick skull. ~ Simple Wolf

Loved this write, Gershon! Also loved Animal House! I get the picture noe)))) LOYOLA u was cool on the Lakeshore campus. No shenanigans at all. But then, I went there in the 16th century.RoFLMAO. Those Jesuits were tough. Worst thing we did..Too much beer at Hamilton's on Broadway. Great basketball team. Great educators. "Ad Majorem Dei Gloria" Pangie

Yeah, I remember when the Jesuits were tough, not rather milquetoasty like they are now. The kids at Loyola Academy High School, big strapping jocks among them, shrank in terror from those teeny-weeny nuns. Interesting, that era...

Ha, ha! I remember hearing a celebrity roasted this way: 'They say you are what you eat, Mr. ___. You must have been eating garbage!' It was pretty funny...

GOGO as they say…garbage in garbage out. My favorite times now are spent in church. I live to praise God and love the friendships with kindred spirits. God bless you and yours. Love the honesty of your poetry!

Yeah, they used to throw us Darmouth animals raw meat for dinner. LOL. Just kidding, of course... But the whole place was an experience to forget. (And I've never been back. No friends from there either). ~ gw
