MY FOUR-YEAR OLD SELF

At the playground's rusted swing set, you wait~
small hands clutching saddle oxford shoes.
I kneel; your eyes widen—we share a face.
You ask if monsters still hide in the dark.
I lie and say no.You grin, relieved.
The sun sets. You fade, but your question stays.
Never learned to outgrow my shadows.

How funny it is that the monsters move from under our childhood beds to lurk inside our grown up heads. I enjoyed this meeting prompting me to reflect on how often I speak with a kindness I reserve more for my younger self than my current self. Thank you.

The punchline is evocative Sara.. The Write a great reminder of what is the Foundation of a healthy world a cared For childhood ' is beyond valuation ' Nobody will get a perfect one..? Abeit The tiffs and traumas with young peers Are formative elements..Yet any violations of childhood time is a thing Mist destructive..(And to be dis-encouraged ) at any opportunity.' Great write indeed..'

Some experiences and questions leave memories and shadows in our tender mind that are not easy to be erased. Even after we grow old and mature, those shadows may haunt us. A great entry for the contest.

"Never learned to outgrow my shadows" is a profound closing line. It suggests that maturity isn't about outrunning darkness, but learning to walk through it. Love This.
