My Flying Dreams Premiere Contest Winner

It was many years ago that I used to dream
that with a small run, I could lift myself
                          up off the ground,
                            and I could fly!

I loved those dreams in which I soared above my town,
for the sensation of them was unmatched
by anything in mere reality.
With time, I noticed my flying dreams had vanished.

Oh, glorious drifting through sky -
where fled my youth? Where fled those dreams?

                          Last night I dreamed
                            I flew again!

I have no idea if this is an Iowa dream, but this is also my dream, and was my father's and my grandmother's. I used to think all I need is a roof I can reach!

You are lucky to have a revisit of a flying dream! I used to fly in dreams and love that feeling, but like you, those dreams stopped by a certain age. I guess you are more young at heart than I! Hugs ~ John

Great verse, Andrea. I too, have had those dreams of flying even through my adult life. Does it mean getting away from what is troubling one. Good luck in the contest. I have not been participating in a lot of the contests. Thank you for your visit on my poem, “ Harbinger Birds of Spring” and leaving a wonderful compliment and congratulations on Constance contest. Hugs Eve

WoW! Andrea, I could relate to this poem very much. I used to have flying dreams often as a child. They gave me a feeling of peace. Dreams are so important, so we mustn’t stop. Best wishes in the contest. I enjoyed the read. PS, I recently wrote a poem on the topic of dreams. Have a wonderful evening:-) Alexis

Very nice, Andrea. I like how you at first, tied the dream to your youth. What a nice feeling to have the dream years later!

I completely share your experience of flying dreams, that were also frequent for me when younger. Thank you for reminding me with this lovely heart warming poem, Andrea. Oddly enough, I have just written and submitted a poem on dreams.

What a lovely verse, rich with imagery and such a fine allusion to hope! Nice work, Andrea. I think we all wanted to be Peter Pan! Best of luck in the contest. I guess I should withdraw my paltry effort, eh?
