My First Wife
The True Story
I saw you sitting on the shop windowsill
Swinging your legs to a tune in your mind
Still dressed in your school uniform
My heart was madly skipping beats
I was in the village on a holiday
I could not take my eyes from you
I tried to breath normally
I would soon be on my way again
I was far too shy to approach you
To me you were subject of dreams
I would take your image with me
Would I be stronger in a year
I did return, and I was stronger
I had the time to steel my inner self
I knew you would be at the local dance
I also knew you were unattached
I decided to befriend your brother
He would help me to win you over
He did and I did
How we lived until cancer took you
I promised you I would go on with life
In the twenty six years since you left
I have done that, to honour your memory
Not a day passes, that I don't still miss you
The last thing you told me, I would be happy
I would find someone, I felt your help
The lady I chose, is all you wished for me
Hopefully we can all meet again someday
