My First Flight

I looked out from the nest
Sun filtered through
Leaves of richest green
A perfect day too
To put my wings to the test

A perfect blue sky
Could be seen
Amongst leaves of richest green
A time to fly

For weeks now
I waited patiently
As down grew
In to flying feathers
That would take me up
In to the blue
From my tree

The first step
The first flight
Is the hardest
Courage too
For, it is needed
To fly
In to the blue

I am not an eagle
Yet, I will fly like one
To leave the nest
In to the blue
In to the sun

I stood on the edge
Looked upwards to the sky
On my first flight
This was my time
My test
For, I must fly

I leapt off
In to the unknown
Wings beating furiously
I climbed skyward
I could not believe
That this was me

I am not eagle
Yet, I will fly like one
I have left the nest
I live in the blue
With wings of sun
