My Favorite Thing

I love this thing with all I am, Forever will she majestically stand. She’s green, you see and stands For all who are free. She’s as old as Rip Van Winkle, But still stands tall. She will always give her all. She’s as brave as the country That carved her stature, The torch she elevates fills Her country men with rapture. After this you sure will see, We need to salute our “Lovely Lady Liberty”

She stands majestically on Liberty Island at the gateway of New York City. The USA received her as a gift back in 1886 from France. That was the country who carved her stature. Did you know there is a smaller replica of the statue in the middle of the Seine River in Paris?

Enjoyed this poem...first time I remember seeing a story on the statue of liberty, but there should be more, like yours. I'm embarrassed to say I haven't been there yet and I live within 100 miles or so.

David, Thank you for your feedback on my poem. This was my very first poem I ever wrote and I wrote it in 1986 when in Junior High. I entered a writting contest for the school system of Massachuesettes. Our topic was a historic figure. I chose The Statue of Liberty because that was the year of her restoration and Bicentennial. I scored top 5%. That started my love for Lighthouses.
