My Favorite Social Worker Leaves

My favorite social worker let me know he had taken a new job. I had instant opposite feelings. I am happy he has the opportunity toward his dream job. Glad for him and his family. He will have a serious pay bump. Sad for us though. Especially our children. They adore him. He is irreplaceable. No one can come in and be loved Like he is. Our students know him. He has been around helping us And loving our students for thirteen years. For his sake I do not tell him how Difficult it will be to replace him or How much time it will take us. Not wanting him to feel guilty. Not wanting to steal his joy.

I have not met them yet, and usually by now, my friend had signed up sixty or seventy children to enjoy him in a weekly group counseling session. I am rather sad about this.

You are a true friend not to "steal his joy" when the loss of him will be so deeply felt there... I know it's hard to find people like that.

If you think I love this man, you should see how the kids followed him around as if he was THE Pied Piper! I wish they would bring in his replacement but of course I shall be determined to not like him at all out of respect for the first minute or two.

Low pay is all too often, the reason for losing a great employee; even if he wanted to stay, no doubt he needed the money. While many employers can pay better; they won't. It makes it harder on those who have a real limit to what they can pay. Just hope and pray for someone like him to come.

He was immediately offered the same salary bump from his boss of 13 years, but by then it was too late. He was already in love with the idea of something new.
