My Father's Shadow

When I was a child I walked in your shadow, but struggled each day to be free. Now that I am old and in my final years, I look and it’s your shadow I see. When my children walk down their pathways of life. I hope their shadow looks like me.

They used to always say, "if you want to know what he or she will be like in 20 years, just look at their mother or father. Much truer than I thought it was in my 20's. Good poetry, Jerry. Bill

When I was a tiny lad, I remember thinking that surely, I was adopted. But as I grew older my shadow started changing into my father.

Frightening how the years roll by Jerry, one minute we're at the bottom rung of the ladder then suddenly you find yourself looking down from the top. Tom
