Listen to poem:

My Father Sleeps

My Father Sleeps
by David J Walker

My father sleeps
And my strongest pleas
Do not awaken him

I weep
For it was he who awakened me
To life

I wait near him
Sometimes quietly
Sometimes with a
Pathetic voice raised
At his silence

With questions
I should have asked
Before the night

But always
He sleeps near me
Always I feel him near

I know his voice
But I do not hear it

Bidding be goodnight
On the eve
He sleeps in peace
