My Father Is 94

Even to this old age, hairs gone or gray, I have been there. Another made you, will carry, sustain, and now rescue you at the end. You have been lucky in life, you had the ability to tap into a different kind of love. Felt by too few we encounter, centered and dwelling in your heart. This love so unique because it became part of you, in your youth, still remaining and undiluted in a man of 94. Your motto for all those you encountered, I forgive your mistakes,so forgive your own, “Like water over a duck’s back,” I don’t try to trip you, so why trip yourselves over the trivial, ending once valued connections, built over the years. Your nature has granted second chances, when challenged and wronged by actions of people over a long lifetime. Your rough edges, inherent in speech or actions, of most of your generation, and history, deserve tolerance, weighed against lives you’ve saved physically, spiritually, not ever giving up on, during wars between nations, and wars within families. Those who judge you and criticize, haven’t been where you’ve been, and can’t understand the total sum of you. Who among us, still find inspiration, displaying a genuine smile, by finding both humor and optimism, in each of our days remaining. To emulate the simple philosophy you live by, must be a key to longevity? Happy 94th.
