My Family

I didn’t know the true strength of the family bonds
until the sky suddenly fell with tough times of turmoil.
We got deracinated, turned into derelict drift wood,
until my mother found for the family an anchorage,
a nest for us to fly together in the sky of sanguine future.

As her gift of a home reinforced our family affinity
I soared high in the care of her protective wings.
Wild winds couldn’t waft away my ascending aspirations
because I lived in the sheltering shadow of her love,
that guided her with family values to sculpt me what I’m.
