My Eyes Saw Autumn
My Eyes Saw Autumn
My eyes saw autumn
in bloodshot reds,
And golden visions
of plumped straw beds,
Like the falling seeds
on leafmould willows
My eyes fluttered dim
upon lichen pillows.
And there, my love
in dreams of spring
A rainbow did intrude
and lovebirds did sing,
'Twas a mocking dream,
a trick of the light,
That danced like shadows
on eyes shut tight,
Like strangers passing
between fate and will,
Where your body writhed
and time stood still.
My eyes saw beauty,
your face aglow,
Like a glistening footprint
in virgin snow,
Like a winter's kiss
where lovers tell
Of that chilly night
when they bid farewell.
And then, my love,
in summer hues
Of blinding yellows
and brutal blues,
I Tore my eyes
from where you wend
And in that moment
the dream did end.
The morning gret me,
the sun barely shone,
My eyes saw autumn
and you were gone.
