My Ex
I swear!
By the burning Sun and the silent moon
by the screeching noise of poets
I will not accept this letter today
I will not accept the letter even later
Mama taught me to think
The wisdom of listening and waiting
Watching and learning
Oh when I met him, Oh God
How he vowed, promised and swore
To guard my heart and watch it bloom
He taught me nothing, when we were dating
And that was moving for he was loving
Makwapa, my Ex was Loving
He wrote me poetry time after time
Sometimes his rhyme never rhymed
Yet I blushed and rushed to love
But now I know
Makwapa, my Ex was killing
Killing me with Love
One evening my Ex
While watching his soccer Match
He grabbed me by the neck
For blocking his view of the screen
Valentine! He screamed and lost his cool
Stole my neck and quenched it once
Oh, Now I know, my Ex is strong
The louder I yelled, the tighter he held
The more I chocked, the deeper he clawed
The more it pained, the more he maintained
Ah! Makwapa, My Ex,
And when they lost the match
With nothing to watch a stick he fetched
And off my feet begun
I swear! I ran
But now I know, Makwapa
My Ex is sleeping on gold
No Olympic match
Ladies and gentlemen
He grabbed me again and I begged
He lifted me in the air
My love, Said I
You said I smell like heaven
Valentine, my chaff, said he
But Now, you smell like hell!
Like a wrestler in horror
My bones crashed
It’s NOT fair, I swear
He was my Ex and you are my next
You quote the saints
And torch my heart
This letter is poetry too
With rhyme and charm, and witchcraft of words
Sweat sugar as though there were bitter sugar
Honey pie, please. Am I a bee?
My evergreen Pumpkin, Since when?
The angel of heaven, give me a break!
I am Valentine, a Mortal
Tell me truth and nothing better more
If you lay your hand on me, speak it now
When I shall choke you and strike your face Baby
I will suture and soothe it back
When I shall ambush you and cut your face
I will pay the doc’s bill
For every pint of blood to stain my hands
For all the broken limbs I shall scatter
I will seek them and return them
When I shall throw you down the balcony
I will run down the stairs and pick your body Sweet Heart
While at it, if you die
I will write your epitaph My Words of undying Love
Great poetry the world will marvel
Now, I’m down on bended knee
You are all I need,
Can’t go on without you
Will you marry me?
By the time you rise and find me gone
You will hear my name sounding at the square
The graduate who said NO to what she knew
I swear!
