My Ears Have Lost A Voice
My Challenge for the October Poetry Contest
Andrea Dietrich
My hearing has fallen south of the border
I think a man is calling my name
I tilt my head this way and that
And take a wild stab at an answer
I try to read his lips
But I'm the one who's in a seashell
I'm lost and confused at the bottom of the sea
Behind my pretentious smile
I hear the sound of bubbles, not words
I look back into the man's eyes, and say I'm sorry
