My Dear Friend Robert

So many many memories
From a time so long ago
But it never seems to get easier
And I really wanted you to know

We did everything together
My best friend was right next door
Always in some kind of trouble
Never knowing what's in store

Playing horses on the walls outside
Collecting wood for Halloween
You really were a great best friend
The best you could have been

From dangling from the school gate
Getting kicked by Ritchie's horse
For all my childhood memories
It was you who was the source

Life threw so many spanners
Of those we had our share
The pain that came with losing you
I never can compare

Time is a great healer
At least that's what they say
But sadness comes with memories
On days just like today

Sometimes we lose the ones we love
No one knows the reasons why
I'll always have a tear for you
Every single time I cry

Your face your voice and humour
Has never gone away
I hope you know I miss you rob
And in my heart you'll stay

For my dear friend Robert Hanley but I miss every day
