I wrote a Monoku about bamboo and Zen ~ found it fun, and then

I was totally obsessed with writing more ~ so I wrote twenty-four

monokumania is a disease ~ with rhyming end words ~ yes, please

seventeen syllables per line ~ if you get addicted, it's a sign

that you have been infected, for sure ~ it's contagious and there's no cure

* Credit to David Kavanagh for the word-Monokumania.

Full of playful delight, Lin. Surely this "obsession" is inherent somewhere in the DNA of all poets - like an itch in the middle of our backs - along with sonnet symptoms, free verse fever and alliteration addiction! I can think of worse infections and I am very grateful there is no antidote! Sending you blessings.

Morning, Sam and thanks for not wanting a cure. There is something intriguing to me about having an itch that needs to be scratched and then finally getting that relief when we've written something that makes us say, "ahhh. Right there." I appreciate you for not wanting a cure for that infectious disease. lol

Dear Lin, your playful exploration of the monoku form is an absolute delight! The way you capture the infectious allure of this poetic style, with its rhyming end words and precise syllabic structure, is both whimsical and relatable. Your poetic voice invites us to revel in the joy of wordplay and embrace the obsessive tendencies that often accompany creative pursuits. It is a delightfully witty and self-aware piece that celebrates the irresistible charm of poetic expression and the contagious nature of artistic passion. - Blessings, my Friend, Daniel

Morning, Daniel. I have so many different poetic voices, and sometimes I never know which one will override another. Some poems begin in one direction and get bumped off the road when a stronger one takes issue. My silly writes never give in... thank goodness. My somber verses sometimes sadden me to the point of walking away for a bit, but I never abandon a poem forever. Thank you for your many thoughtful and complimentary messages.

I certainly hope I’ve managed to awaken her, Mike. Lol Challenge her to write a Monoku and if that doesn’t work threaten to trade her in! Thanks for enjoying this one.

Thank you very much for enjoying the humor of this one, Paul. It shouldn't get more comments than one of a more serious nature that I posted yesterday, but I'll chalk it up to people wanting to read more humor rather than sadness. I appreciate the many fine comments you leave for me.

ha ha, Tom. I can live without writing them, but why when I enjoy coming up with new ideas? Thanks, Mayor.

Ha! now where did you find that monokumania word, they really are addictive and almost a (high) when they come together just like your series here, alas I have plenty that have failed, but that’s part of the challenge of rhyming and syllable counting them, I enjoyed reading, and what a great line to finish on, cheers David

I have to ask for your indulgence by not crediting you for the word, ‘Monokumania. Forgive me? You did inspire these and my first few, especially the rhyming ones. Thank you. Check beneath the poem.
