The Whiskey Taster’s Flavor Guide

My Coffee Cup

My husband got a coffee cup
Two decades plus ago,
A birthday gift from neighbors
That we didn’t really know.

It had a saying which implied
That getting older’s good.
My husband wouldn’t use it
And I knew he never would.

So it became the one I used
Though it was not my style.
I figured I’d replace it
With a new one in a while.

But years went by and every day
I used that coffee cup
Until this morning when, at last,
Its time on earth was up.

For somehow as I stretched my arm
To grab it from its hook,
I knocked it down and noticed
Smithereens with just one look.

I swept the shards and smiled,
Wond’ring why it took so long
To get rid of something in my life
Which didn’t quite belong.

As a former kindergarten teacher, I held the record for most mugs, especially those apple pictured. I thought of opening up a coffee shop and to each customer, I would donate a mug. Tee hee. Yours left the world without hurt feelings. Are you sure you missed the hook in error? He'll never know. Tee Hee...

As I cleaned my house out this past summer and had a garage sale. I got rid of so many things that I should have a long time ago. Quite a therapeutic endeavor. Although, some things I sit here and think. Why did I get rid of that. :/ :) lol

I love this poem, Ilene. Going straight to my FAVES! I use several of my favorite cups, and I would be really upset if I broke one of them. But, I'd never force myself to use one I didn't like no matter who gave it to me. Actually, no one ever gave me one, because they know I like the ones I have bought so well. Kinky, eh?
