My Childhood Refuge

I once knew this place of refuge
A place where I could go
Just had to close my eyes real tight
And I'd be there in a flash of light

In this secret, special place of mine
There was no more pain, no more tears
He wasn't there, no evil in sight
I went there if he came, day or night

Only happiness, love, and kindness was there
Only scents of flowers, cookies baking
Never knew there, the darkness of night
He was never, ever in my sight

I knew this place, knew it very well
The only place I could run to, to escape him
My place of refuge, out of his sight
No matter light of day or dark of night
