My Child

Poet: Ken Jordan Poem: My Child Edited by: Sparkle Jordan written: September 1986 Copyright: 1986 Come here  my child    set down lets  talk awhile -      Tell me Where does  time go?     I know that  someday soon     you'll gather your things;    give me a hug, and move forward    towards your future -      And I'll  watch you leave,     armed with all the love     that I could give -  I'll wave  my hands     until you're far   from view, and say     see you soon my child,     my soul goes  with you -      And as the days go by,     I'll think of those special times,     watching you bloom like Sunflowers along     some hillside in Spring -      And I'll remember  when I use to     gently clean   milk     from your mouth, brush away sand     from your knees. I would look at you     and smile, with love in       my eyes, and say:     Look at those pretty      little feet -     And when I  would          brush your hair,    oooh  how you would hollar,    and  hold your breath. But,  through it all,    you learned  how to crawl,    walk,   and run - Now you're all   grown up and  leaving home -    I want you to know  my child, mama  will always be with you,   I give you my heart,   and  my soul; God will   show you the way -
