My Blue Dress Is Not a Fashion Statement

With inspiration born from noted malcontent
I composed, dismayed at the reason to vent
In defense of poets, I am inclined to defend
I'll wear a blue dress to commend, not offend

I've been waiting for an auspicious occasion
Putting it on took not a smidge of persuasion
for there is a cause requiring a special dress
a situation with which you may acquiesce

It's been hanging in my closet for over a year
Perhaps a titch too tight and much too sheer
Not the kind of thing I often wear, I confess
Not a fashion statement; my symbolic dress

Garbed in blue silk, my sentiments are divided
for innocence and impishness have dually collided
I'm championing those who were rudely slighted
and call "foul" to the action of being shortsighted

After discovering the facts, I cried, "Oh, my gosh!
What poppycock is this disrespectful pish posh?"
No poet should be subjected to such degrading
It's never kind to disparage in a public upbraiding

I had no plan to wear a garment of blue, and yet
I've zipped it without a smattering of regret
to give a thumbs up to poets who were spurned
by an insulting rebuke that none of them earned

Well you're back now, and I am so happy about that. Yes, someone did deserve it. I wrote this is response to her rude actions, not so much to expect it would place in the contest, but in hopes that by addressing the issue, people would take note of the rudeness of her action. Or...perhaps it was just a vent that needed to be released.

You are so talented Lin. "Garbed in blue silk, my sentiments are divided for innocence and impishness have dually collided". I loved this clever poem! Mele Kalikimaka! : ) xxoo

I am always grateful when a reader points out a particular line or phrase, and you, dear Connie, do it often. Thanks you so much for the kind comments and for the well wishes. I would wish you happiness every day of the year.

Sometimes being brutally honest is if done at all should be done in private. I think this wonderfully creative piece scores well and shows support for poets that were slighted. Tact. Seems some people knows not what it is...

Whether it scores in the contest or not, it was something that I felt needed to be addressed. Many thanks for your support for me as well as the PS community.

Hell, I've never worn a dress, but tonight I gonna wear the bluest of the blue as a gesture of solidarity. Great dress, perfectly penned rhymes.

Now that's what I call a "fashion statement." Your comments and support for the cause is appreciated by me, and I'm sure it's brought a smile to more than a few PS faces. Thanks so very much, Kurt.

Lin, an excellently penned poem with a great message, I prefer the blue dress over green! :)

The message is one that everyone on PS should be aware of and take seriously the feelings of fellow poets. Thanks for your bold stance, despite the attitude of others. I'm delighted to see your comments here, Tania.

If I hadn't seen the blogs I wouldn't have grasped this one, but I did. Very well written Lin. I think blue suits you. Lol. Tom

Your grasp is all I ask for, Tom. I'm wearing it as a flag of showing respect for fellow poets. Thanks for your comments, and btw, blue IS my favorite color.

Those who can, do; those who can not, criticise. Yet, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and life is a growing experience. Fertilizer helps! Aloha! Rico

Yet, too much fertilizer can burn or kill a plant and a poet's desire to write.... Thanks for leaving your thoughts with me, Rico.

This one definitely meets up to standards in my book. Regardless of the color, you have dressed this poem up wonderfully. It is striking and commands attention when it enters the site. How beautiful it looks as it flows down the runway pointing to those in the seats saying...you are amazing too, don't ever let anyone tell you that you are not. A very fashionable piece my friend.

I suppose now I'll have to wear it out in public. ;-) However, you know the garment is only window dressing for this write. Your insightfulness is to be applauded. Thanks so much, Chris.
