My Best Pet
This one was inspired by "Pets" contest
(But was written in an unacceptable form)
I use to have a dog
A rabbit, pig and frog
A couple of ferrets and a cat
Although I trained them well
There's something I must tell
There is one, that's the smartest of the pack
When I found him it was sad
In conditions awful bad
Just living in trash found 'round his place
Abhorrent to the eye
Among the fleas, the ticks and flies
I couldn't help falling for that face
He appeared to be alone
So I took and brought him home
And I started to train him right away
He learned very fast
Not a thing beyond his grasp
But no one had to teach him how to play
Now, he can open doors
Pick things up off the floor
He's even learned how to wipe his feet
And, he likes to take a bath
And he's very good at math
I trained him by using little treats
Today, he is my hero
Who came a long way from that zero
And he tops the charts in loyalty
Some years, have now gone by
And I'll tell you filled with pride
A Better Husband, you won't ever see
