My Beloved Kay
There you were Kay, across the dance floor
Caught your smile and it overpowered me
Danced with you and knew for sure
You are the one to share my life.
So much interest in learning everything
Caring approach to those less fortunate
High moral attitude to things important
Unwavering trust in a higher power.
Raised a family of fortunate girls and boys
Dedicated to all in a selfless manner
Never counting the continuing sacrifices made
Thanking God for blessings showered
In later life returned to dedicated work
Rejoicing in the medical service rendered
Counted not the enormous cost to self
All that matters is helping others.
After thirty years I look across the room
There is the smile again that caught my eye
And I recall a happy life well spent
With my beloved wife.
Now when I contemplate the declining years
I know that long long ago in a lighted room
I glanced across and caught a smile
That changed the direction of my life
