I look at the calendar Check the date and time My appointment looms Just three days to go I light a lavender scented candle And inhale the soothing scent It calms my nerves Only three days to go I dread the though of the mammogram machine Squeezing and squashing my breasts Will my lump turn out to be cancer Or just a benign cyst Just three days to go Just three days to go And then I may know Anxiety Contest Sponsored by Lewis Raynes 02~25~17 I discovered a lump in my breast and my mammogram is on 28th Feb which is Shrove Tuesday or pancake day. I have to see the humourous side of it … it sure will squash my breasts as flat as pancakes.

I have found I have to use humour to get over stressful situations. The first poem I wrote was called 'Splendid Isolation' about my my hubby had his cancer surgery but I deliberately posted a funny poem as my first one on soup - humour helps me get through:-) hugs Jan xx

Your words gently take the reader to a private place in your heart and we too can feel your anxiety. Well written, Emile.

The countdown, the waiting, the wondering, can really mess with ones mind. Your poem speaks to how stressful it is. I use aromatherapy and candles daily too. Poignant writing on a topic not spoken about often enough. You are in my thoughts, sending you hugs :-) many blessings to you :-) lynn

My hubby is amazed I even wrote the poem as it is such a personal thing but if it helps me cope then I can't control what flows from my pen:-) hugs Jan xx

Jan, I think the hardest thing to do in life is live each day like there is no tomorrow. We all want to look ahead. However, if we can ever get to the point where we just enjoy today, it certainly removes a lot of unnecessary stress. Good luck with your test:) Great poem on a very serious subject!

Good point Daniel, often with these things the waiting and anticipation is worse than the actual event:-( I do try to live life to the full as much as possible:-) hugs Jan xx

my thoughts are with you at this time, jan! it's wonderful that you still have your sense of humor (or humour, as you'd say!) about it. i can feel the anxiety in your poem, though, and i'd feel the same way. well done and best of luck to you. i look forward to hearing good news in a poem this week...
