My Another Race Friend and I

My best friend was a different race guy.
He was far less lettered than I
But business wise far smarter,...
Good enough to be my master!

He gave me enormous gifts.
I gave him economic lifts.
He valued me, I valued him,
And we were a formidable team!

Once upon the turbulent waters of life,
And born out of racial strife,
My car was being taken from me.
He delivered me from infamy!

He and I were highly equal.
Respect for each other's cultures was mutual
His mantra was "Live and let live."
And the man was always willing to give!

To be sure, our relationship was unusual.
Indeed, it was quite special.
It was distinct in his community
And no less in my society.

I survived him for he passed on,
But in my life he's been an icon.
He covered my back many times,
Even though we grew in different climes!
