Do you think I don't know you after all these years,
Sitting so quietly as if listening with raised ears?
Am I supposed to pick you up for such loving posture,
And reward you with a treat to hear your happy cheer?
You toppled the litter box and ran to your hideout
Pretending like except you no one will find out,
Emerging only when I cleaned the mess you made,
Walking away like you never heard anything I said.
Now you sit there as if to assure me all is well,
Looking for my approval of your cute, gentle swell.
I know you are scheming to ask for my forgiveness
With playful moves and kisses, trusting my kindness.
Yet, I see a look of determination: love me or else,
As if you know how to live here without my help,
Displaying cuddly charm neighbor's kids adore,
Hubris in your pose says they love you even more.
You left that space on sofa for me to sit next to you,
So I will lift you up with a gentle hug as I always do.
Stop pretending if you want to make up to me,
Be yourself and run to me to sprinkle kisses of glee.
