Musings About the Confederate Flag

Musings About the Confederate Flag By Elton Camp When the Confederate flag Joe saw He gazed at it, apparently in awe What is going through his mind Is he honoring the days behind? Or the future is he facing Not a sordid past embracing? What he’s thinking, none can know His facial expression doesn’t show Nostalgia for a past few did share? A gracious land of plenty was rare Mint juleps in a white hand While slaves farm the land Were his ancestors like mine Dirt poor, not a life so fine? No mansion with pillars of white Or parties in which to delight By slaves they weren’t tended Until the War, it all upended Is it time, at last, to put away A divisive symbol of another day?

Probably the most balanced, thoughtful, and critical discussion I have seen.

Thank you. I wrote this quite a long time back before all this new controversy. Had forgotten about it. Thanks for finding it.
