Mummy Queen on Halloween
her bones were stiff from the tight wrappings
she was excited the embalmers had left her heart
where were those canopic jars?
the blue one held her liver
the green one held her lungs
the other two were graced with her stomach and intestines
She began searching the stale tomb, collecting pieces of herself
her horse had been stuffed, not mummified
This annoyed the Egyptian queen
Wait! What were those noises? She heard voices
Human but they spoke a different language
They began to get near her tomb
She waited and waited
no one came
Her organs were collected, and she crawled out of her crypt
two minutes before midnight, Halloween’s Eve
ready to haunt in earnest, eager to begin a reign of terror.
It felt good to laugh, she had missed her stomach muscles
Fully intact, she began her prowl for someone to haunt.
It would not take long
Great costume! Some idiot said to her
Luckily, she did not speak their language.
