Much Ado About Nothing
Much “ADO” about nothing.
When I was a small child, a phrase I oft heard spoke
Generally just teasing, simply meant as a joke.
They might say of a person “That guys a “nit-wit”
Some might contend the speaker, that could fit.
As I sat there in the hot sun just finished my mowing
The steam from me rising, my condition was showing.
I had called myself that name, that, among many
Another might have been “The “Little Red Hennie”.
Cause she did it herself she ask no one for help
So now that I’m weary I can’t whine or yelp.
But back to our topic, the cause of the rhyme
I find it harder to concentrate so much of the time.
I went to the internet this odd word to define
I actually thought a bit, my own name I might find.
There were 64 synonyms, most I’ve heard many times
But there were a couple I’d not use in any rhyme.
There were some odd ones. I’d not heard of “mouth-breather”
A “cretin” or “wooden-head”, “Mook” nor “Scissorbill” either.
But there are some 40+ others, I’ve at times been called most.
Now don’t misunderstand me I don’t say that here in boast.
It’s just been my life’s pattern as I’ve shared my thoughts
I’ve not always taken time, as much time as I ought.
So at times I’ve been sorely but surely. . . . misunderstood
As I’ve not rehearsed my words as any “quick thinker” would.
Those hearers were not wrong, it just doesn’t change me naught
When I simply think of this, as another ‘laugh’ I’ve now bought.
For laughter like stardom often gained at any price
By those that are willing to risk a throw of the dice.
To take a bold stand to share their thoughts with others
While so many great ideas, silence simply smothers.
So what I’ve tried to share here as I’ve spent time getting cool.
It’s not always been true, what's been said of a “possible” fool.
“Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid
Than to open it and remove all doubt”.
I know that didn’t rhyme but I can’t change a quote
For the person wasn’t rhyming when those words they wrote.
Nor the writer of Proverbs as they penned these words:
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent
And discerning if he holds his tongue. 17:28
So even while you’ve been reading, you may think of me as dense.
But I’d rather you just laughed as I struggle here to make sense.
