Mr Skunk

I had an uninvited visitor
disturb me in the middle of the night.
It’s not that he was disrespectful or
like those who never smile and take delight

in misery. No, he was just close by
with no intent to harm. But last night’s guest
walked by my bedroom window and let fly
an odor that disturbed much needed rest.

The stench exceeded the familiar scent
and struck olfactory nerves with grievous force.
A headache woke me up, would not relent,
and several hours since grew even worse.

This skunk exceeded what I’ve ever smelled.
In stink-o-land he is unparalleled.
