Mr Mason and His Mirror
He stands in her face, and she always says to him, "You are a gift to the human race". In the privacy of his room, she's there, shouting to him long and loud,
"Of course there are no rivals, for you are as pure as the morning dew". Whether right or wrong, he longs and loves for everyone to agree with her.
So she stands with him like a rock when he is beaten, tossed, and turned. She tells him that he is the greatest since the invention of popcorn.
Perhaps she does not lie, but she displays only what he wishes to see. Mirrors are like that, you know; they will adore, aid, and assist;
They know that you will continue to persist; so they cannot resist. They allow your trivial pursuits, but they will never sustain or satisfy you.
It is his world alone that Mr. Mason desires; so he needs mirrors, and not walls to block him or windows through which he can see the real world. Mr. Mason's "point of view” is all that matters; so he has no need of friends, but mirrors. He has been emancipated from the borders of walls and the exposures of windows. Mr. Mason has been totally liberated and sentenced to an eternal love affair with himself. God help him.
