Mr Kasowskis Warning
He sucked the thin tube inward
pulling the smoke into his lungs
until the tip glowed fiercely.
Warm lemon tea,
lean body
coiling
on an abdominal spring.
“A Gestapo Officer
was searching – hunting.
He found us backed against a wall
in a small attic room.
He had papers and orders.
Arrogant in his power
he broke down the door.
He thought he alone could catch us.
He gloated only for a moment,
until fear shattered his face.
We tore him apart with our bare hands.
It was over in moments.
Some tore and bit at his neck,
some dug his eyes from their sockets.
The women went for his manhood.
I will never forget the surprise on his face
as he died in lumps and pieces.”
A long pause, as Mr. Jaworski
took another slow pull,
and another sip of lemon tea.
“Be a good boy Johnny.
and pray to gentle Jesus”, he said,
“but when they come for you,
be a wolf.”
