Moving On
How do we say the final word
That comes with a fond farewell
After the many changing episodes
The long and mournful phrases
The final words emerge from hidden places
Goodbye, farewell, Adios.
Let us move on to the next inn
For there awaiting sorrows leave us
Once again returning to await
Our own arriving solitudes
That sing a quiet lullaby
to our childhood dreams
And schemes we planned are lying
On the roadside trampled
By the strangers passing by.
Carry them in your pockets
All your plans and hopes and dreams
hidden from the greedy and the blind
That have no dreams, no hopes, no hearts
Save those taken from the orphaned and the homeless.
What will you have me bring to the feast?
My soul will only hunger more
My heart will only long to soar
With the eagle and the wind.
