Mountain Games

"Ring-around-a-rosie"
took more than two hands to play
and the more hands held
the bigger the circle was made.

"Pockets full of posies"
gathered from all those petals
of dandelions saved after
He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not was done.

"Ashes, ashes, all fall down!"
Perhaps they were singing of those ashes
used in abundance for fertilizer
on many an Appalachian farm

where girls would play
giggling there on the ground fallen down
way back when instant replay meant
to get up and go around again.

Sue, I love the way the children come alive in this wonderful poem. And, bravo, for your reference to "instant replay." Kids today think they have it all, but they are really missing a lot. I fear for their future. Love, Carolyn -- and thanks for your comments on "Unicorn"

Oh hey Sue, there you are, yes I am back. Now I am going way, way back reading this poem. The childlike innocence and beauty of song - just the simplicity if it all - captured here in poetic memory. Beautiful job. Life was so simple once, for a brief moment in time. Love, Shar
