Mother’s Mouth

Her red lips split to birth another lie.
I learned my smile from watching hers divide—
that perfect crimson crack, that practiced art
of swallowing the truth and spitting charm.
Now my own mouth mirrors hers: a lovely wound
that bleeds politeness over everything.
