Mother

Mother

Depleted and aching to leave this world
     I watch you, beloved Mother
Confusion, your insistent companion
Plays tricks on you, then hides
Leaving you weary, wandering ceaselessly
     In Time
Where cherished memories
     Swollen with love and loss
Spill through the shadows of your fading world.

Oh Mom, I watch as you wrap up your life
And parcel your pain with eyes grown dim
I watch as you pause, in silence, hushed
A soft smile teasing your lips
A light playing around your eyes
     And I know deep within
A treasured memory, whose fleeting bounty
Brings you joy, holds you captive
For a precious moment...
