Morning Welcome

To wake without alarm--
That would be nice.
To go out early once
Where the cardinal
Is already up,
To shed the night wrap
And swaddling house
To go out early once
Without a cigarette
Or coffee cup,
Before some obligation
Calls me indolent
And back inside
To compromise
On schedule,
To go out early once
To feel the leisure
Grace of welcome--
That would be nice.
