Morning Serenade of a Single

The alarm clock beeps
Refuses to stop
An arm reaches out
A loud yawn and a burp
Bring forth the odor of PJ's Tavern.

Grab the remote:
The stock market's down
Traffic's backed up
The President sez...
A shooting nearby.

Hacking of phlegm
A cold, piercing shower
Brushing of teeth
Mint gargle for breath
There's an 8AM meeting.

Scents of deodorant, hair spray, cologne
No breakfast today
The stomach is fighting
Could use a dog hair
Maybe at lunch.

Briefcase picked up
Along with umbrella
A glance in the mirror
Footsteps retreating
The door slammed and locked.
