Morning Mishap

My early morning began as normal as could be, but soon, while driving the freeway on my way to work, my car stalled. Then, in center of an apex, my car died. I had no choice but to leave it there and gather my things. I had to hurry or I would miss my morning flight. Cars were slowly passing in the crowded rush hour traffic, and there I was on foot, dragging my suitcase behind me. There were car loads of guys offering me a ride, whistling, whooping, and calling out to me from inside their cars. I was in my stewardess attire and simply mortified. I didn't feel safe getting into a car filled with guys. I walked for some time, ignoring them, praying for a miracle. Soon after a nice fellow, alone in a pick up truck, asked if I needed a ride and I gratefully said yes. He pulled off to the emergency lane and put my suitcase in the back of his truck as I slipped into his cab. I had no cash on me to call a taxi, so this kind stranger not only gave me a lift but cashed a personal twenty dollar check! He dropped me at a filling station when his exit came. I expressed my gratitude and blessed him as he pulled away. I know this angel in disguise was an answer to my prayers. I arrived at the airport just in time to catch my flight. Amen! © Connie Marcum Wong *Not for the Contest because I did it all wrong. My mistake for not reading the directions correctly. Sorry Sara!

And after all that ordeal, there's that unexpected Good Samaritan, willing to lend a hand. Glad that it all worked out in the end! Our everyday routine can seem so mundane at times ... but then there are those rare moments that feel like something out of movie. Nice that you penned it all down for sentimentality's mistake. I would almost think this would be Unexpected Good Fortune rather than Mishap though ... that's just me!

Well, it is never a good thing to be late for a trip as they only allow you to miss three before you are fired. That is three in your entire career! So not only was I beginning my day hot and covered in fumes from cars on the freeway, embarrassed pulling my bag behind me, but I was freaking out that I would miss my flight. Thanks :)

connie, what an experience you had! I have had similar things happen to me, several times and was fortunate always to get an angel coming to my rescue. Sadly, today we would not even be able to accept a ride from an old man in a truck since he could very well be a serial killer. WE just can't guess what anybody really is these days. I sure enjoyed this one.

I had no choice but to take a chance or I would have missed my flight. It was too late to call in and tell them to get someone else. They would have gone out short which makes the flight horrible for the passengers and the flight attendants both. Thanks :)

Sounds pretty harsh. Only three misses and your fired, that's horrible.

It was very nerve wracking when there was a traffic accident so I always had to leave early. A real challenge for someone like me who is not all that punctual! Lol. ; )

I get busy and just read it wrong. My own fault. Thanks a lot Richard. I don't think my kids know about this, so one day when I am gone they can have a story to entertain them. The worst thing about this is the strict rules of the airline. If you miss three trips in your entire career you are fired. That was behind the urgency of making it to the airplane in time. I missed one flight that was my fault, in 34 years. ; )

This might have been a spiritual master in working clothes. I understand they work in mysterious ways. Anywho, he found a very deserving, sweet lady to favor. When I was a kid going swimming at a park several miles from my house I was using my thumb to get a ride. A cop car pulled up and they gave me a ride. Days have probably changed over these 70 plus years. Love to you, daver

Reminds me of the joke where the guy stuck on his roof in the flood asks God for help, but turns down the boat and helicopter...but you didn't!

Yep, I remember that story my mom used to tell, only in her version the drowning man was asking the Lord for help and a log floated by and then he said never mind Lord this log just saved me. Thank you Tom. ; )

That is for sure. It is never a good idea to get into the car of a stranger but I was pretty desperate. Thank you Jan. ; )
