More Than You Realize

These eyes see more
Than you realize;

     They see the hurt you hide
     They see the lies you live
     They see the shame you deny
     They see the want for what you shouldn't have.

These eyes I got from you,
My birthday gift
The only thing you ever gave me
That didn't come with some terrible price.

     They will remember you
     They will burn into themselves one day
     In a mirror, a final torture
     Of seeing your far reflection in themselves.

Give me back my eyes,
Despoiler of my innocence.
You don't deserve to have them too,
After you've taken everything else.
