Notes About The Poem

More Than a Soft Toy
More Than a Soft Toy
A doll gifted to my toddler daughter
More lasting joy, it imbued upon her
Than precious jewels adorning her ears
Ever since her infant to adult years.
Painted pink bright with cheerful colours bold,
The toy awaits a story to be told;
It`s a tie to a past, a gentle guide
To a tale in a heart, held deep inside.
Caring for the soft toy like a mother,
She would attend to it like a toddler,
She cuddled it by her side while asleep,
Displaying affection, profound and deep;
She fed it with a spoonful of her food
Every time she consumed her meals for good,
Dressed it with new clothing every weekend,
Brushed its hair with a small comb like a pen;
More than a toy, it was a silent grace,
Listening raptly, with a smiling face,
To whispers of hope without any fear
As to murmurs of grief with drops of tears.
At touch of a key, it would glow with smile,
Seamlessly sing a stream of songs with style,
Exhibit distressed eyes of solemn grief
One would wonder with spells of disbelief.
With tireless watch, devoid of any sigh,
It stared at life unfold before its eyes
Holding guard beside its master`s bedside,
With its eyes shining bright and ever wide;
The gifted doll, more than a soft toy old,
Endures as a reminder, true and bold,
In the life of my accomplished daughter,
Now a shining primary school teacher.
It`s more than a soft toy, with stitches small,
It holds memories standing strong and tall,
A little heart, woven with love so true,
A lifelong passion, sparkling ever new.
More than a toy, it`s a bridge to her past,
A reminiscence that will ever last,
More than a soft toy, it really is,
A special source of serene silent bliss.
