More than a soft toy

I hear little whimpers from out in the yard.
He is searching everywhere, looking really hard.

Then I realize he is missing his littler toy dog.
He looks in an old bucket and under a log.

I realize I haven’t seen it for quite a while.
He continues to look all around the wood pile.

I’ll help you look, I wont leave you in the lurch.
We will find it. I will help you. I care I search.

Then in the garden I see stuffing from his toy.
I hide it from my old dog, he is such a good boy.

Birds have taken most of it to build their nest.
I take it in, stitch more stuffing in, it looks its best.

When he isn’t looking I toss it near the wood pile.
He soon finds it. Who said dogs don’t smile?

Glad you liked it. I have no need for searching these days, so searching for a friend was the only way to go with this poem contest. This one is a true story. It happened when he was just a pup, as in the photo. Thanks so much for your comment. Best wishes. SV

Thanks so much Joe. You hit the nail on the head. Our guy doesn't know he is a dog. We treat him like a dog, but he acts just like a lil kid. Good to hear from you Joe. Best wishes, mate. from SV

What a treasure you are. lol. Thank you for your comment. Its just a simple poem. He is our only pet at present, We have always had a dog, sometime two at once. This is Brix. He is a 9 year old Bullmastiff. A giant breed. He weights more than I do, and when he stands on his hind legs he is over 6 feet tall. A big boy. Best wishes SV
