Moonlight Dream Dancer
She goes out because
She can't step inside a spaceship
And go back in time
She can't retrace her steps
And figure out
Where it all went wrong
So instead...
She dances
And with her mind like a spaceship
She does blast off
And escapes her sad reality
She dances good
And she dances a long time
And sweat like rain
Pours down her body
Baptising her...
Cleansing the pain out of her pours
And better than booze
The endorphins take her
Higher and higher...
Away many planets and back
The music touches
And embraces her like a warm light
Touching and caressing her
With its disco ball
And laser beams striking
Over and around her
The music touches her ears and into her mind
And then she's like a possessed object
She is no longer ordinary
No longer old
Or married/separated/divorced
Or a mother
She is only a woman
Sexual and beautiful
And seeking to excite and tease the men
In their half drunk states of mind
They see this bigger than average woman
She dances so sexual
Like a stripper
Or a salsa/punk rocker/rapper chick
She does it all
And she does it well
They wonder who she is?
And like the prisoner who
Gets to rub their wrists after their shackles are taken off
She too rubs the pain out
Of her life for one night
She sets the burdens aside
And she dances them away...
She flies across the floor like a butterfly
Released from a cage
And like a song bird
Whose beak was held shut
She lets her voice ring out
To the heavens and back...
She almost cries
It feels so good to be out
And to be free....
And dutifully at the end
Of the night
Like Cinderella and her glass slipper
She ever so carefully
Puts the burdens back on her shoulders
