Monet's Weeping Willow ~ekphrasis
Solemn and still, barely breathing
Arms weighing heavy lain with burden
Always standing, never sleeping
Constantly changing, nothing certain
Crying out for many lives lost
The tragedy and severity of war
Men and boys have paid the cost
This willow weeps, praying, “No more.”
Claude Monet “Weeping Willow”
Oil on canvas 1918-19
