Mona Lisa Smile

Mona Lisa Smile A slight grin-more of a smirk She checks her look On her way to work Is she happy-is she sad? Is she torn About the life she’s had? Dreams-some unrealized Small joys that distraction buys Sorrows dismissed While hope and time it flies The rut is the path The path is the rut The price of the dance The rug being cut We all buy the dream The price is the key The door is locked To my cell and me On our way to work We contemplate a while With weary eyes And Mona Lisa smile David Kettler
