Modern Immortality

Sweetly sing with the heart of praise A melody which finds the grave To soothe the trepidatious soul. Assured creation captures whole The deeds of life if not forsaken Are the only true salvation. Yet edifice, empire and grand design All whither when held to the face of time. Defiant, arthritic monuments, A fetish to silence our death's lament On plaques, in books, and legend's tongue The choir of ages, each name, has sung. Whose blood so thick runs through their veins, Whose heritage so strong can claim An endless life from son to son Whose name immortal, when name is gone? So sweetly sing with the heart of praise Lest memory dies and spirit fades.
