Mock Me Mock You
I am a mockingbird, innocent , it is something you must see
But could you ever imagine that the mockingbird could be me?
Mockingbirds are known to repeat whatever song they hear
But I am a mockingbird who cannot repeat the beat of 17 bullets in my ear
My soul is innocent, I do no harm, This is why I am a mockingbird
If I sound innocent you must not be aware of what I look like, Haven’t you heard?
A tall, strong black n*gger. I am sin and my bitter coffee colored skin is disturbing
I can not be the mockingbird, no, but I am and I will take my arm and swing
Not to fly like a mockingbird but to chop your chifferobe with my hatchet
They can shoot their bullet, they will pray that I’ll catch it
But I will simply mimic the comments they hiss at me because I am a mockingbird
I am a mockingbird with a broken wing, but who has a voice
I’ll speak the truth although I am not given a choice
I’ll tweet the sweet gospel songs from my fellow brothers and sisters when I take flight
All who are innocent like me may go to the light
Skin color is not important, no matter what you heard
I will live on because I, Tom Robinson, am a black mockingbird
